How We Work
We have several areas of activity:
Walks – guided tours getting to know our area better. Each year we organise about 20 walks, including bird-watching trips, botanical strolls and insects hunts.
Work Parties – in many types of reserves in the area. Winter months are dominated by about a dozen work parties. We help Natural England at the Lyme Regis to Axmouth Undercliffs NNR, and East Devon District Council at several Local Nature Reserves, including Seaton Wetlands, Trinity Hill and Holyford Woods, for which we have a shared management responsibility. And we work at many other small sites dotted about our area. We have a formal agreement with Colyton Parish Council to manage Colyton Community Woodland on behalf of the town.
Funding – of capital projects, usually those of other environmental organisations since we own no land. For a small charity, we are particularly proud of our contributions to several important aspects of Seaton Wetlands. In recent years we have contributed funding towards the Tower Hide at Black Hole Marsh and the Sand Martin cliff at Stafford Marsh, interpretation boards at The Borrow Pit at Seaton Marshes and at Coronation Corner (Axmouth), Seaton Jurassic’s garden, and equipment for monitoring the movement of bats by the Devon Bat Group.
Newsletter – In March and September each year we distribute a 30-page newsletter of short articles and calendar of our events for the following six months.
